Dar Horchani: a true gem in Tozeur

When people hype up a place, I try my best to lower my expectations in my own head as much as I can. Not that I am a pessimist. But I hate being disappointed. 

No need to lower your expectations when traveling to Tozeur though: the desert is truly magnificent and imposing, the oasis are beautiful and the mirages are real. As for our guest house, Dar Horchani, it is a spectacular gem in the middle of all this natural beauty. And possibly where I could see myself having a party for my wedding - if I ever find a husband of course.

The pool doesn't have chlorine neither does the hot jacuzzi. A true pleasure for swimming. As for the food, just terrific. I barely have any pictures of the food - sorry - I was too busy stuffing my face with all the incredible dishes they prepared for us. We even had some special and very unique lamb cooked in the ground called "gargoulette." The flavor of the meat was unbelievable. As for the wine, not to worry, plenty of that too to make dinner even more memorable, or perhaps a bit blurry if you have one too many glasses :-)

As for the service, the manager Mohamed was very helpful and very kind. I am obsessed with fresh pressed orange juice and never did he say "no we are out." His team organized our trip to the beautiful oasis called Chbika, he booked the driver to take us to the dunes for sunset, and he arranged our quad expedition in the desert. Basically we didn't need to do anything. Just enjoy everything offered to us ... and we did. We really did.

"Trop bon trop con" is a French expression that means that if you are too nice, people take advantage of you. True or false? Honestly I am not sure but it definitely made me wonder. Since I am old enough to remember, I have usually been nice. The kind of person who changed her plans for family or friends in order to accommodate everyone - with a smile.
