Am I the only one not on Tinder?

A few nights ago, my friends and I had dinner at Souvlaki, a delicious Greek restaurant in Lower East Side. I tried convincing them to go to my new favorite bar for a night cap, but failed - so hard to get couples to go out for drinks on weekdays!

Fortunately, one other person was down for a drink. He was my friend's friend, I had just met him, but he was good company at dinner and very outgoing, so I figured why not.

We headed to the Wayland: live music, good drinks, cool bartenders ... It was  a good time, until this girl started falling all over him. Not that I was getting jealous or anything, but she was loud and obnoxious, so I gave her the look.

She backed down, and said "Sorry I didn't see that you are with your girl."

In unison, we said "Oh no we just met tonight."

"Oh on Tinder ..."

"Nope " I said rolling my eyes.

"Oh another app?"

"No!" we both replied.

She looked at us puzzled.

"Then how?"

This app called reality woman, but at that point, we didn't bother answering. We just went back to our drinks and eventually she started hitting on the bartender and left us alone. But her question lingered in my mind and made me wonder if I was the only New Yorker who didn't do everything on an app.

My ex used to swear by Seamless, I just saw on a friend's Facebook that there is a new app called Cleanly for laundry and every single person around me seems to be on Tinder looking for their "soulmate."

I grocery shop an cook, I go down to the laundromat and do my own laundry with little quarters, and I have yet to join a dating app - to the biggest disappointment of my non single girlfriends who are dying to know how Tinder works.

I used to think I was cool for being old-school, but am I being too old-school? Am I fighting my time? Should I ditch laundry, cooking and the hopes of finding my soulmate while rollerblading in Manhattan and start my virtual life?

  1. I don't think dating apps are the be all/end all... I think we need to get back to a little old school.. somehow mixing new with old would be the best way to go xox

  2. Ur soulmate will be there in the less expected moment. U're too smart to store ur life and feelings in a big data server... Moreover, u're handsome and smart. Just a matter of time. Loneliness is the wisdom cement afterall. So try to find the positive side of every situation u'll have to deal with in ur life...
