Two Blondes in Mexico

Apparently as two blondes, Charlotte and I shouldn't have gone to Mexico alone, but why? Mexico was awesome. Literally, from the second we got there to the second we left, everything was pretty much perfect. I say pretty much because our few hours in Cancun were kind of the opposite of perfect.

Not because it was dangerous. But because Starbucks, Hagen Daz and TGI Fridays were not exactly what we were looking for while outside the U.S. We wanted fresh tacos and tortas, margaritas and beautiful beaches. And we got it all, just not in Cancun.

So don't go to Cancun, but do go to Cozumel and Playa del Carmen.

Rent a scooter in Cozumel: you can visit the entire island at your own pace and really enjoy all the island has to offer: pristine beaches, fun bars with beautiful beach views, taco trucks, and even tequila factories. Yeah you get to taste a bunch of different flavors as part of the tour :-)

Also, if you don't have your PADI and want to enjoy all the underwater beauty, take your PADI test in paradise instead of some community pool. Charlotte and I got certified in 3 days and it was amazing. We even got to do a night dive.

We then took the ferry from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen for about $5. Yes you are reading this right. I didn't forget a zero. Just $5. Look at the view from the boat in the picture below ... Do I even have to say anything? I don't but I will. The rest of Playa is even more beautiful.

We visited Xcaret, a natural sanctuary, that does have a bit of a Disney vibe, but was still fantastic.

But what we really loved was Tulum, a Pre-Columbian Maya walled city located on the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. The ruins are situated on 39 feet tall cliffs overlooking a beautiful beach, that is practically deserted. It was about 45 minutes away from the city and at most a $10 ride. Worht every penny!!
