Go spend your money in Iceland

Iceland was really one of those trips that just happened. Let me define "just happened."

I met a guy. He said his dream was to go to Iceland. I wanted to go too. A week later, we landed in Keflavik together. And the fun began with non stop activities. And no I didn't end up marrying him. He loved Pop Tarts, I loved Nutella: we were just too different for the long run -:)

But here is what we both loved: Iceland. Whether hiking on the impressive glaciers of Vatnajokull, river rafting the Hivta River or riding Icelandic horses on lava landscape, it was all breathtaking experiences.

go whale watching as well

My personal favorite, even though I am very much a horse person, was ice climbing on the glacier. Perhaps it was because I won the race that I loved it so much.

The Blue Lagoon was pretty fantastic too. Yes it is a tourist attraction, but I was a tourist, and really where else can you bath in super warm water with mud on your face while enjoying a bubbly drink or a beer? Nowhere. So be a tourist and visit the Blue Lagoon.

And if it is summer when you go and you are lucky enough to experience 24 hours of daylight per day, don't forget to take your semi identical picture at 3 pm and 3 am. Try to guess which is the 3 am one.

Last but not least, I have to say I expected the food to be pretty basic. In my mind, Iceland was about glaciers, geysers and whales. But I was wrong. Iceland was also a bout amazing culinary experiences. My two favorites were 3 Frakkar and Tapas Hucid.

They couldn't be more different. Tapas Hucid is this big colorful restaurant overlooking the harbor and mountains serving unusual tapas while 3 Frakkar is this tiny dark restaurant in the middle of town with a much more traditional menu.

At 3 Frakkar order the whale pepper steak medium rare. And at Tapas Hucid, pick one of their tasting menus and order a bunch of different cocktails. You will not be disappointed I promise. However I can't promise you won't be a little broke after your Iceland getaway. I know I was. Everything is expensive! But so worth it -:)
