"I am taking a break from Facebook"

Image
I am sure everone who read this post's title was thinking: “omg Sara is having a nervous meltdown. Something must have happened for her to NEED to disconnect from Facebook.”   Rest assured this is not about me. I am not leaving Facebook, but even if I were, it wouldn't be because of a nervous meltdown. I would imagine that if I were having a nervous meltdown, I would be preoccupied with more important things than my Facebook account.  So why this post? Because someone I know posted that on their Facebook wall and her friend’s reactions perplexed me a bit.  Some pleading her to stay, to not disconnect, claiming they were going to miss her as if her leaving Facebook meant she was leaving the planet. Others making jokes about her not lasting more than a couple of hours, as if she was some sort of addict. And lastly a few were saying and I quote “this is probably a good idea.” Kind of rude, no?  But it seems like being nice to each other on Facebook...

Google didn't lie

In today's world, it's kind of hard to know what's reality and what's not. Between Iphone filters, Facebook filters, and Instagram filters, and I am sure a million other apps I don't know about, it is really hard to know if what I see on some Instagram feeds even exists.  So when I flew to Banff to discover Lake Louise, I wasn't holding my breath. I had seen a quick picture of a beautiful turquoise lake, but it had seemed to blue to be true. But my friend Deidre was excited to go there and I figured why not go breath some fresh air in Canada.  So after a long night in Vegas, two hours of sleep, and a three hour flight to Calgary, we found ourself driving away from the airport in our tiny red rental car with a paper map and approximative directions to get to Banff. Our phones didn't work, not even a little, so it was us, the Rocky Mountains and Lake Louise - and a few elks too.  I won't lie. I have been to many wonderful places, but Banff took my...

Girl's Trip Complications

Image
Anyone who has ever tried to put four girls in the same picture knows how difficult it can be, not to get them to take the picture, that's easy the part, but to get all four of them to agree that all four look good in one single picture and one single setting: "it's never the right profile, the right angle, the right look, the right filter and so on ..." It never ends. One of the girls will always claim to not look good enough. Us women like to complicate things, it is a fact. So what did I decide to do? Well I thought it would be fun to organize a girl's trip with a bunch of very different girls who mostly don't know each other. Sounds crazy, Right? But I have done it once with two girlfriends of mine who didn't know each other, and it all worked out. One glass of champagne in our cozy Business seats, and all three of us were BFFs for the rest of our Istanbul adventure. So why not try with more girls? Well because as a Facebook virtual friend of mi...

FACEBOOK HASHTAGGING!

Image
Every time I log to Facebook, I wish for more interesting posts. But sure enough, my news feed is flooded with private diaries : my head hurts, my foot hurts, my fingernail hurts, my inner soul hurts bla bla bla ... I ate this yesterday, and that the day before, and today I am not sure yet ... Gotta keep the mystery going, right? But all of the above doesn't bother me that much anymore. It is the same people all the time, you get used to it. But here is what is bothering me so much lately: ######! People seem to not be able to choose if they want to Facebook a picture of their early morning yoga or Instagram it, so they do both and all these hashtags are all over! I am not trying to be mean, but are you that worried that you won't get enough Hearts on Instagram that you need to post it on Facebook to get Likes as well? Kind of makes you look desperate for attention in my opinion. I know what you guilty people will say: some people don't have Instagram so the...

The. Bitch. Test.

If you know me at all, you know I am the first to say flight attendants are sometimes kind of jerks, but mainly to each other, not to passengers. So I was a bit surprised to hear a friend of a friend complain that a flight attendant harassed her. Usually people complain about a delay, a reroute, uncomfortable  seats, older flight attendants, but never had I heard of any of my colleagues "harassing " passengers. Being curious, I had to ask what the story was. "Well I had my foot on the emergency equipment and she wouldn't stop telling me to take it off. I was sleeping and she kept on waking me up to take my foot down." As the words came out of her mouth, my smile was slowly widening. "But you are not allowed to put your foot ... " I started, but couldn't finish. "I know I was wrong, but I wasn't that wrong," she interrupted. What did that even mean? Wrong, but not that wrong ... "She was just doing her job. She do...

Trouble "uncoupling"

Image
A post about an ex boyfriend reappearing would have been funny, but it wouldn't have been that unique. All of us have had ex boyfriends reappear a month later, when they felt lonely, or a year later, when they realized their new girlfriend was not half the fun you were, or ten years later when they realized they married the wrong girl. Add Facebook to the mix, and usually you get some interesting messages from your past, people you haven't spoken it in forever who need a favor, e.g."we haven't spoken in ten years but I see you are a flight attendant ... may I have a free ticket?" Or ex boyfriends who haven't achieved the uncoupling process. But if you are my cousin's ex boyfriend, why would you send me a message? And what does your message even mean, aside from the fact that you belong in a psych ward? "Hi miss its nice to ... really many good memories together ... I really regret my youthful mistakes with your cousin ... I promise." Th...

Karma will have your back

Who enjoys going through security at the airport? Nobody. And it's not so much the taking off your shoes and belt that is so annoying, it is the people telling you what to do because they are rarely polite and the "rules" are never the same. One day your belt is fine, one day it is a weapon of mass destruction, one day toothpaste is no problem, another you are stuck with bad breath during your 15 hour flight because the officer was in a bad freaking mood. Of course, some rules do really change, but usually the answer to all these discrepancies lies in two LITTLE words: Basically some idiot was given too much power and decided to make your day a living hell because his life is a living hell. Unfortunately, it is not just airport security. One of my coworkers inspired today's post. True any flight attendant can pretty much get any passenger kicked off if she really want to, but is it worth it? Not to me, but it is to some. It might not even be fair, bu...

Why wear colors?

Image
Please don't be offended if you are a Desigual fan, but I really really hate everything from that brand. I am sorry but there is nothing HIP about this shirt ...  The clothes, the scarves, the bags, the wallets. Everything is way too colorful and the mix of pattern is just over the top. Perhaps I am just boring. Perhaps living in NYC has made me a sad person who only wears black and white, and perhaps gray for the Spring and dark blue for celebrations ... Yeah yeah I know what you are thinking. What the hell is wrong with her? But I am not crazy and I am not a sad depressed New Yorker. I do wear some color here and there, but Desigual is not color here and there. It is color here and there and everywhere in between, literally. I know I sound really harsh but if someone told me that the brand designer is a 4 year-old who got inspired by a 50 Crayola case, I wouldn't question it. Agree or disagree? Let me know in the love box below ... And for...
